The police yesterday launched an investigation into a temple which was operating on the third floor of the Liberty Plaza shopping complex in Colombo after complaints were lodged alleging sexual abuse on the premises.
A group of monks and Buddhist devotees had yesterday attempted to force their way into the Nakiren Soshu Japanese Temple to confront the monks who were operating the premises.
The venerable Pulliyade Sudharma Thero, a monk who led the protestors to the temple yesterday, told The Sunday Leader that there have been complaints of female devotees being molested and abused on the premises.
Over 40 monks and Buddhist devotees staged a protest outside the temple last morning, the venerable Pulliyade Sudharma Thero said.
The police was later deployed to the temple premises to ensure no unruly situation takes place as a result of the protest.
